Equality, Diversity & Inclusion
Addington Chambers is committed to respecting and understanding the cultural needs of its diverse and global client base, and is committed to equality and diversity.
Equality and diversity policy
Chambers operates under a equality and diversity policy in accordance with the Bar Standard Board’s Equality and Diversity Code.
Please email Chambers for a copy.
Recruitment and equality and diversity
All applications (be it for staff, tenants, pupils or mini-pupils) are considered on merit alone. All selection procedures are operated without discrimination, that is to say without regard to irrelevant considerations such as sex, race, colour, ethnic or national origin, nationality, citizenship, disability, sexual orientation, gender reassignment, pregnancy and maternity, marriage and civil partnership, religion or belief, or age. At this point in time, Chambers is not recruiting staff, pupils or mini-pupils.
Chambers also recognises the importance of increasing social mobility at the Bar and looks equally at applications for pupillage and mini-pupillage from graduates of all universities and from all backgrounds and all sectors of the community with the ability and determination to succeed as a barrister. However, at this point in time, Chambers is not recruiting staff, pupils or mini-pupils.
Diversity data
Our diversity data is published here, which was obtained in accordance with BSB rules and guidance. All members, pupils and staff (where applicable) will be provided with the opportunity to complete a data diversity questionnaire. This will be a voluntary exercise.
If you have any queries or comments concerning our Equality and Diversity Policy please contact either Head of Chambers.
Anti-racism Statement 2021
The Macpherson Inquiry and the Black Lives Matter movement has shown that there is a need for change, to reduce racial inequality in our modern world.
The Bar Standards Board is committed to encouraging an independent, strong, diverse and effective legal profession, as is Addington Chambers.
As part of the Clerksroom network of barristers and Chambers, Addington Chambers recognise the role it can play by developing an anti-racist organisation and in delivering an anti-racist practice; we are committed to tackling the injustice caused by racial inequality at the Bar and within the legal profession.
We remain committed to welcoming people of all backgrounds and ethnicities to the business, both as members and users of the facilities. We therefore welcome input in this educational journey.
We are taking part in Clerksroom’s race equality audit with our members to identify the barriers to race equality, so that we can work together on tackling them.
We are committed to training our staff, pupils and barristers and will take part in Clerksroom anti-racist training for members and staff. All members and staff will be invited to attend training. We hope to open up this training to members of the public in 2021.
Our Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Policy provides more detail on our overall strategy and the practical processes we have in place.
You can raise any concerns that you have in respect of racial equality/racism with our Equality and Diversity Officer, Tom Wesel.
